Charging

Charging

Rechargeable lithium battery is fairly easy, but the charge of security is the most difficult. The basic rule is based on a constant current charge (between 0.2C to 0.7C, and not according to different manufacturers, etc.) until the battery reaches 4.2Vpc (Volts per cell, the voltage every single monomer), and the holding voltage of 4.2V until the charging current fell to 10% of the original charge value. The charging voltage peak (Top charging voltage) and end current (Termination current) with battery manufacturers and slightly different.
But in any case, a charging timer must include safe design.

When the battery reaches 4.2Vpc, only reached 40-70% of full capacity, so when the charger will not reach this voltage power, but must continue to charge until a current drop, then stop charging at low current situation. Therefore, even if the charger is viewed through the use of ordinary voltmeter to the voltage rise 4.2V, in fact, did not fully charged battery, at least 60% less capacity unused. Therefore, a lithium battery charger with constant current followed by constant voltage charging feature is very necessary.

It must be noted, for the lithium batteries, thin slow charging (Trickle Charging) are not applicable. Because the chemical reaction of lithium ions can not accept overcharging (Overcharging), this will inevitably harm to the battery.

Any package of lithium batteries should have (or have had) is responsible for the safety board to monitor the battery charge and discharge, to avoid the risk of occurrence. As the provisions of this board set by the cell specified by the manufacturer, typically include:
· Positive and negative inverted protection
· Charging temperature: When below 0 degrees and above 45 ℃, will not be charged
· Charging current is not too high, generally are lower than 0.7C
· Discharge protection, in order to avoid the risk of a battery short circuit caused
Charging voltage: Built permanently fuses to prevent the excessive voltage is applied to the battery
· Overcharge protection (Overcharge Protection): When the battery stops charging Chanyu than 4.3V
· Over-discharge protection (Overdischarge Protection): When a cell is lower than 2.3V, it stops continue to discharge (voltage value varies depending on the manufacturer)
· When the battery has been exposed to the environment than 100 ℃, the fuse will open circuit.
